It’s Never too Late   Sunday, August 22, 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County in Peacedale, RI

Erin Barrette Goodman grew up in a wonderful, loving, and decidedly non-musical family. She is a drop out of both flute and piano lessons and lived most of her life believing that she couldn’t carry a tune and has no rhythm, until recently when she began singing and dancing (in public!) – and loving every minute of it! With words, songs and photographs she will share her story of entering the magical world of casual music-making as an adult.

First Annual Community Contra Dance  Saturday, August 28, 7-10 p.m. at Casey Farm in Saunderstown, RI. More details will be posted soon!

Ladies of the Rolling Pin Dancing Tour  ~ We will begin by dancing at the Coastal Growers’ Market in Saunderstown, RI at 10:30 a.m. Then we’ll head over to Middletwon, RI for the St. Columba’s Annual English Garden Party, where we will perform at 2:30 p.m. And finally we’ll appear at Sweet Berry Farm (also in Middletown) for a 4:00 performance.

And while I’m out dancing, Farmer Pat will be leading our first Pat’s Pastured on-farm events at our Jamestown farm.

Farm Tour

Come tour our pastures, take photos, ask questions and meet our animals (cattle, sheep, pigs, laying hens, broilers, turkeys and dairy cows). Tours, which offer sweeping views of Narragansett Bay, are led by Farmer Pat or Farmer Josh. All participants will take home a half-dozen of our delicious Pat’s Pastured eggs and our farm store will be open at the end of the tour.

Chicken Processing Workshop

Whether you are thinking of raising your own meat chickens or just want to know more about your food before it gets to your plate, this class is for you. Farmer Pat will lead you on a walking tour of our farm and then we’ll join the rest of the farm crew and get to work! Learn to cut, bleed, scald, pluck, and clean the interior cavity of a chicken. Learn to properly sharpen knives and how to part out a chicken. Harvest and take home one of our broilers.

Register for either of these events at patspastured.com.

~ Welcome to my newest sponsor, Lynn Ely and MomEvolve. Lynn is a certified life, career and empowerment coach, a human resources professional, and mother of two whose mission is to help moms restore balance in their own lives, so they can free up energy to discover & share their gifts. Check out this inspiring video that Lynn made (and share it with the special mothers in your life) in honor of Mother’s Day.

~ Thank you and good-bye (for now) to my cousin, friend and sponsor Dan Cummings of Queen’s River Flutes. Dan is closing his etsy shop for a bit while he and his partner Maureen travel to Missouri to study sustainable building and permaculture. Good luck guys! We’re going to miss you a lot!

~ I am so enjoying the conversation that my essay Kindergarten Can Wait sparked over at kidoinfo.com. So many varied perspectives being shared in such a respectful way. I also really enjoyed the blog post Plenty Bright Enough that Emily shared. Also, I just learned that the current debate in Brain, Child Magazine is on whether or not kindergarten red-shirting should be allowed. I haven’t read this issue yet but look forward to doing so.

Hope you are having a great weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow with an interview and book giveaway with author Chris Carr.

Thank you to everyone who entered – I cannot even tell you how much joy it brought to my week to read (and re-read!!) all the incredibly delicious dreams you all shared. SO inspiring!

Thank you again to J.Ricci Energy for this generous giveaway!
