Thank you all so very much for your beautiful words.

We are moving slowly and feeling deeply.

Tripping over small details (like making meals and remembering pick-up times and proper clothes). And feeling tremendous gratitude for our circle of family, friends, neighbors and teachers for their love and support.

We’re making space for sad feelings and angry feelings and tricky feelings and time alone. And for tears.

We’re appreciating the quiet comfort of poetry and music and hugs.

But more than anything we are savoring the little details – the colors, the light, the sounds, the smells – of this beautiful world and smiling as we see Auntie Rita everywhere.

Wishing you a beautiful and peace-filled weekend.

Happy weekend friends.

The snow is falling outside. We are planning a quiet evening at home and I am taking some time to reflect on all that was 2009.

I find the end of the year both invigorating and challenging. There is much that I had hoped to accomplish this year that has not yet manifest and I find it easy to get discouraged with myself. Going through this process of reviewing the highlights of the year has been incredibly powerful. It has really helped me to appreciate all that we have, all that we are, and all that we are becoming.

December

It’s been a month of transition here on my blog. At my daughter’s request, I am no longer writing about the inner workings of our family and our children. So as the year closes, I’m taking things slowly, finding a new rhythm, drawing from Nature and my Yoga practice as I make my way into the next chapter here on my blog and in my life.

Happy Blue Moon! And Happy New Year to you!

I know it’s really warm and cozy by the fire and oh so cold outside. I know it takes a long time to find everyone’s mittens and hats and pull all the extra layers on. I know you would rather curl up under a blanket and read.

Go outside anyway.

It’s worth the extra effort.

It really is.

{ Happy Weekend, friends! }

Thank you for your kind words yesterday. They mean a lot to me. And for anyone who has been wanting to explore the world of audio and video posts…DO IT! (And then send me a link when you do!!)

In other news…I just realized that Solstice and Christmas are next week.

I don’t know exactly how I lost track of this, given that we are counting down on two different Advent calendars in our home. But somehow I thought there was an extra weekend between now and then.

Since I have learned that this is NOT the case my mind has been absolutely racing and I’m catching myself running in circles (accomplishing absolutely nothing) far too often.

So I thought I would take a trip into the soothing world of still-life-style photography, one of my favorite retreats when feelings of frenzy begin to build around and inside of me.

These images are from our children’s beautiful Waldrf-inspired nursery school.

Ahhh…much better.

{ If anyone is interested, many (many!) more photos of our kids’ school can be found here and here. }

Due to rain, the Lantern Walk took place a week later than planned but it was well worth the wait.

In a letter home, Miss Anne described the event in this way:

“The Lantern Walk is a chance for families to come together at school and have a sweet, safe adventure experiencing the night.”

And that is just what it was.

Such a lovely evening!

As an aside, I am very pleased with my photos this year — much more so than last year. The secret (surprise-surprise) was my breathing. Each time I took a picture, I let out a long slow exhale (using Ujjayi breath) and it really helped to keep my hands steady during the longer exposure!
