in my nana’s kitchen

One day last month, while visiting my grandparents, I caught this photo of Lily sitting in the kitchen while her Nana, Great Auntie (and Godmother) and her Nanana swirled around her making dinner.

{Lily came up with the names Nanana and Grandpapa for my grandparents when she was a toddler.}

Everyone was busy stirring and cooking and talking and laughing and Lily was just sitting there soaking it all in.

My aunt lives out of state so when she comes to visit, it’s always cause for a celebration. We usually get together with the entire extended family on the weekends. (We always have somebody’s birthday or anniversary to celebrate!) But I also love these spontaneous small-scale gatherings that occur during her visits.

And on this day, I loved watching my children relax and play and listen to all the stories that are told in my Nana’s kitchen, a space that holds so many warm memories from my own childhood.

    So sweet. Is that another little one hiding under the table?

    I love capturing moments like this.

    What a treasure! I would love for my children to have memories of the family elders the way your children will. I think it is the tie that binds.

    There is something so amazing about watching a little one soaking up the different generations around here, especially in the kitchen where so much if life’s essence is enjoyed

    your post is a reminder to me how lucky we are that our children know our parents so very well and see them regularly. (even if it isn’t as much as our parents would like!)
