Last night we attended a Lantern Walk at Lily’s school, which her wonderful teachers create each year to offer the preschoolers and their families a sweet, safe, adventure outside after dark.
The evening began at 5 p.m. by gathering around a bonfire, which some fashionably-late families didn’t quite make it to, and then each child was invited to find his or her lantern, created in school by decorating a glass jar with tissue paper, for a walk down a candle-lit path into the woods.
At the end of the path, we gathered around a favorite tree where we sang “This Little Light of Mine” and “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
We then returned to the start of the walk where a small pool was waiting to receive a wish from each child, launched into the night on a milkweed-pod-boat with a candle mast.
It was a challenging night for this amateur photographer but I did manage to get a few shots that I hope capture the sweetness of the evening.

What an awesome event!! Looks like a lot of fun!!
Your shots of the candles are awesome!!! The best thing in low light is to open up your aperture (f number) and bump up the ISO to 1600. Then adjust the shutter speed– you’ll need it to be slow enough, but too slow and things will look blurry. I just had a lot of success in NYC with shutter speeds around 1/80, but do a few test shots and see what works. That, IMO, is the best photography tip of all LOL
