We had barely unpacked from our New York trip and the kids were still showing signs of exhaustion. And yet here I was packing our backpacks for the next adventure — a day trip to Block Island.
Block Island is only a one-hour ferry trip away so technically it’s a trip we could make any time.
But last week our good friends were vacationing on the island, meaning we had cheerful, familiar faces to greet us at the ferry dock, and a house — far away from the hullabaloo around said ferry dock — to use as base camp for the day.
And there was only one day that week that worked for both of our schedules.
I decided to rally my tired crew and go for it.

It was a 13+ hour day that began in thick fog, and ended in warm, glowing sunlight (followed by more thick fog), with a whole lot of laughter and beach-hopping and sun-soaking in between.
And I’m so glad we went.
It’s a different world out there and it was so nice to tap into the (beautifully slow) pace of island living – even if just for a day.

I’m so glad that this worked out for you. Sometimes the long days are the best– especially taken at a slow pace– savoring every moment.
