steady days :: interview + book giveaway

in exhale audio, exhale interviews, parenting

I found my way to Jamie Martin’s beautiful blog, Steadymom.com, shortly after she launched it in December of 2008. As I followed along with her journey, I felt a connection with Jamie and the work she is doing — both in her home and in the world at large – and have enjoyed many inspiring e-mail exchanges with her over the past year.

It is my great pleasure to share my first exhale audio interview with Jamie Martin, author of Steady Days, creator of Steadymom.com, and mother of three beautiful little people.

The interview is about 45 minutes long so I divided it into two sections (aprox. 26 min. and aprox. 18 min.)  in hopes of making it more convenient for you to listen to.

.

Please keep in mind as you listen to this interview that this was my first time interviewing in this format. It is far from perfect. You’ll hear me awkwardly interrupt or talk over Jamie a few times (sorry Jamie!) and I most definitely need to find a way to get a better sound quality for future interviews. But I hope you will be able to look past the surface blemishes, because the content is rich and beautiful.

I can’t wait to listen to this. Great idea to split in 2 pieces!

kate February 1, 2010 at 9:25 am

E, just listened to part one:: love it and LOVE the fact that you did an audio interview (I could listen, sip coffee, and fold laundry)…I so appreciate Jamie’s ideas about not wasting time online. With a macbook serving as my computer, I always seem to be moving it from room to room, popping online in “spare” moments that end up turning into minutes…I’m going to try storing it away in one (not so present) spot during the day…as of right. now.

The interview was great! I am glad to see that you and Jamie have both figured out ways to keep blogging and yet not let it consume your every waking hour. Technology is great – it is a wonderful tool that helps connect us with other like minded people so we know we are not alone but it can also be the reason that we don’t have time to connect with those living under the same roof, on the same street, our old friends and our extended family. I like the timer idea and turning the computer off during the day and at a certain time at night. If we worked for a boss that called us at all hours we would be angry that he/she was disturbing our family time and yet our computers and cell phones disturb our family time continually. Don’t get me wrong I love keeping in touch with friends and family through my computer and cell phone but I think it is time that I also set some limits on the use of this technology so that I have more time to interact with those around me. Thank you Erin and Jamie for the great interview!

What a great idea for a book. As mothers we do try to do it all and be it all to everyone. Balancing our time and energy is hard to do! I look forward to reading more. Thanks for this. :)

Kelly February 1, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Thanks, Erin! Jamie’s book is a wondeful read! It was a treat listening to two of my favorite bloggers on this cold afternoon while I nursed my 6 day old and reflected that despite all the challenges, how lucky we all are to be mothers.

This looks like a great read! I’ll post about it on FB too.

Hon, don’t bother adding me to the giveaway, I’ve read the book (smile). Just thought I’d let you know I listened to part one while making pancakes for supper tonight. Lovely listening. I feel that I’ve learned so much in this last year – about creativity, photography, mothering – things that matter to me through the blogs I’ve found on-line. I got to the point where the challenge was, as you found, to reign that in a bit to focus on my OWN creativity, photgraphy and mothering instead of reading and posting about it. To actually do and live what I want and who I want to be. And remembering my blog is not me, it’s just a part of me. Anyway, that was all going through my mind while listening to your interview. So nice to hear both of your voices.

Iryna February 1, 2010 at 6:56 pm

audio…I can’t wait to listen to this – my son doesn’t think I should create any noise that might indicate my focus is not on him so it’ll be interesting to see when I do this. :)

I’ve been dying to buy this book…I can’t wait to read it. I have the audio saved on the old Blackberry and can’t wait to listen to it after the kids have been asleep for a while…I want to be able to devote my full attention to it. I love Jamie’s blog and I’ve enjoyed reading all the great blog posts about the book. (Almost every blog I subscribe to has had a giveaway or some sort of mention of how fabulous it is.)
I’m REALLY excited to be able to crack open my own copy.
