sunday still life :: school days

in getting organized, living + learning, photography, still life

Sunday Still Life is an evolving photo project; an invitation to explore the beauty and depth of life through traditional still life composition and / or photos and words to evoke inner stillness and reflection. If you are inspired to join in, please leave a link in the comments.

He has homework on the weekends, journal-writing with inventive spelling encouraged. (Yes!!)  On Thursday he needs a towel tucked into his backpack and a bathing suit under his clothes for swim lessons.

She has a reading book, a spelling list and a math paper that come home on Monday. Papers are due on Thursday. Reading book gets returned and spelling test is on Friday. Library book is due on Tuesday. She needs to wear sneakers for PE on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I hang giant sticky notes on the doors to keep track of the comings and goings and plan the weekly menus. We set up a makeshift homework table in the living room. Slowly we are starting to find our way into the rhythm of our school days.

Giant sticky notes are a good system! Hope you transition smoothly into your new rhythm.

Homework schedules, extra curriculars, library books, etc. It’s a full-time job just keeping it all straight. It can make you crazy if you let it. And yet, I can’t imagine doing it any other way. Enjoy your weekend Erin! xoxo — Anna

i hear you, anna.

we decided to opt out of extra-curriculars for this year while we get settled in to having everyone in school 5 full days.

both kids are itching for soccer and scouts (and karate and 4-H) but i just don’t see how we could fit it in to our weeks (and have any time to relax, play and eat meals at home).

i told them we’re going to take it one season and one activity at a time. and for this season…it’s all about getting settled into school and playing outside as much as we can!!

i can see this is going to be a tricky thing to balance as they get older though — SO many exciting options for activities out there!

Love the look of a busy, busy family. And love the idea of inventive spelling! I’m back this week!

We are so in that same place Erin. I was just telling our son that we are done with extra activities until Spring. It’s too much! I love the giant sticky notes! What a great idea!

Here’s mine: http://sagetribe02.typepad.com/blog/2011/10/sunda.html

And that doesn’t even include your schedule or John’s!
I have been living daily by my calendar since my dear teacher friend returned to work (and I started caring for her daughter)! Priceless. I think it might be time for me to step up into the iTouch/Phone age, though. I am starting to be TEASED for my methods!
